Savory Equals Less Sugar
Take a turn around the grocery store, and you may notice a new trend: Packaged foods that we typically think of as sweet—like cottage cheese, jams, and cereals—sold as savory versions. “Sugar is quickly becoming our greatest food villain, even more so than fat or sodium,” says Carlotta Mast, lead author of the NEXT Forecast, an annual food trends report created by New Hope Network and the Sterling-Rice Group. “So it makes sense that we would see an uptick in the launch of new savory versions of popular packaged foods and beverages such as yogurts, snack bars, and even teas.” Here, view eight of our favorite (and dietitian-approved) picks!
