Everything You Need to Know About the Clif Bar Recall

Food recalls are never good news—but, arguably, there is a best case scenario, and that’s if no one has actually gotten sick. Clif Bar & Company has voluntarily recalled a bunch of their CLIF BAR and CLIF Mojo bars due to possible contamination, luckily, before it’s affected any consumers.

The issue: An ingredient supplier was found to have distributed sunflower seed kernels that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono), a serious infection that mostly affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems, according to the CDC.Symptoms include a headache, stiff neck, loss of balance, and convulsions, in addition to fever and muscle aches. Pregnant women usually only experience fever and fatigue or achiness, but the infection can result in miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatening infection of the baby.

These outbreaks aren’t rare; just a month ago there was a nation wide from region call and last year there was one linked to blue bell creamies.. But don’t stress; we have everything you need to know about lasteria.

If you’re worried your bars might be a part of the recall, check to see if your package falls into any of the below categories. If they do, it’s best to just dump them:

  • CLIF BAR® Nuts & Seeds energy bar all pack configurations with coded date ranges starting 08JUN16 through 21JAN17
  • CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bar all pack configurations with coded date ranges starting 05JUN16 through 24MAR17
  • CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® trail mix bar all pack configurations with coded date ranges starting 16JUN16 through 02FEB17
