– If you are wearing the same shoes indoors and outdoors, the bacteria will settle and will continue to multiply on your home floor!
Do you take off your shoes when you enter your home? If the answer is negative, you may jeopardize your health. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t wear shoes while you are at home.
Some bacteria are good for us, and some bad. A study conducted at the University of Arizona made an examination of germs found on shoes, and discovered that about 421,000 bacteria have settled on them.
Among the harmful species Escherichia coli was located as well, which can cause intestinal infections, diarrhea and in rare cases, meningitis.
Klebsiella pneumoniae was also detected, which can cause urinary tract infections, and Serratia ficaria which may cause respiratory infections.
“When walking on the street we step over different surfaces, bird and dog feces and bacteria from public toilet floors” – explains Kelly Reynolds, a microbiologist and professor at the University of Arizona.
“If you are wearing the same shoes indoors and outdoors, the bacteria will settle and will continue to multiply on your home floor!”
Another potential problem is toxins with which grass surfaces are treated can easily enter into your home.
A study conducted at the Baylor University showed that people who live near the asphalt roads that contain tar have increased risk of cancer.
Toxins that are “collected” with shoes are entering your home where they can be kept for a long time.
“The dirt itself is not harmful,” – claims Dr. Reynolds, but adds that it should be reduced to a minimum, especially if you have a small child. “Children often put their fingers and toys in their mouths, so the floors and other surfaces need to be as clean as possible.
