Sometimes we are forced, due to everyday obligations and fast ways of life, to consume semi-processed products or fast food, but sooner or later these bad habits will destroy our health, or even our life.
Proper nutrition affects health, the ability to learn and the appearance as well. Different products contain ingredients with various chemical composition and different impacts on the body. Precisely because of the chemical composition, we have to be careful what we eat .The bad side is that due to lack of time we often simply don’t have choice and we consume semi-processed products and or fast food.
- Processed meat products
Meat preserved by smoking, curing or meat that contains chemical preservatives is associated with an increased risk of colon cancer. Most of these types of meat products contain carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium – nitrate, which is used to give the wrapped meat bright red color, so it could look fresh. A study conducted in 2005 by the University of Hawaii showed that processed meat increases the risk of pancreatic cancer up to 67%.
- Carbonated drinks
They contain an enormous amount of calories, sugar and additional ingredients and have no nutritional value. One soft drink contains about ten bags of sugar (one bag is about 7 grams of sugar). According to research, the most popular dietary soft drinks have the same effect on tooth enamel as battery acid, which leads to increased tooth sensitivity and decay despite good oral hygiene. A survey conducted by the University of Minnesota shows that people who drink at least two soft drinks a week almost double the risk of developing pancreatic cancer.
Chips contain hydrogenated vegetable fat, carbohydrates, sodium, flavorings, artificial colors and preservatives. All this can cause clogged arteries. The high temperature at which the chips are produced usually causes formation of carcinogenic substances, such as acrylamide (the substance is found in cigarettes). Professor Dale Hattis, from the American University of Clark declares: “I estimate that acrylamide causes several hundred thousand of cancer developments per year.” Even the chips with reduced Trans – fats may contain acrylamide.
- Microwave popcorn
According to a survey conveyed by the American universities, UCLA, chemicals that are found in the inner part of the bag, including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), are part of the compounds that may be associated with infertility in humans. During the research, it was found that the chemicals cause the development of the liver, testes and pancreatic cancer. When you put the popcorns in the microwave, chemicals evaporate and get into the popcorns. Most manufacturers have promised to throw out PFOA by 2015
- Farmed salmon
It not only contains much smaller amounts of vitamin D compared with “wild” salmon, but it also contains a huge amount of various contaminants, such as polychlorinated biphenyl (PCD), carcinogens and various pesticides, of which the most common is dichloro-diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT). This salmon can be consumed once every five months, without fear to increase the risk of cancer. Also, farmed fish are usually treated with a high dose of antibiotics.
- Ordinary apples
According to research, apples contain the most pesticides .The presence of pesticides in more than 700 samples tested is 98%. Other highly contaminated foods are grapes, strawberries, potatoes and oranges. Of the samples tested, more than 90% contain traces of pesticides. Besides being toxic to humans, pesticides may increase the risk of some cancer development, and some research shows that if pregnant women are affected may increase the risk of reducing the IQ and hyperkinetic disorders in children. So wash your fruits and vegetables, as it is said, in “seven waters”.
- Canned tomatoes
The most canned foods contain Bisphenol- A (BPA)), a chemical that acts like estrogen and disrupts hormonal activities in the body. Research connects BPA with heart diseases, intestinal dysfunction, infertility and other reproductive problems. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, exposure to bisphenol- A is widespread throughout the world. Although all canned foods are not worrisome, canned tomatoes are particularly dangerous. One can of tomatoes typically contains about 50 micrograms of Bisphenol-A, and it is high enough level which can affect people, especially the children.
