This 2-Step Hemp Milk Recipe Couldn’t Be Any Easier


Move over almonds—hemp milk is the new dairy alternative in town.

Nondairy milk is increasingly popular, but often store-bought hemp milk and other nondairy milks are loaded with unpronounceable ingredients…fillers, preservatives, synthetic vitamins, who knows? This hemp milk recipe is so simple, delicious, and nutritious, so ditch the store-bought variety and make your own!

Benefits of hemp milk

A creamy glass of hemp milk does more than complement your breakfast—it provides you with a variety of nutrients. One serving of hemp seeds (3 tablespoons) delivers 10 grams of complete plant-based protein, which is easier to digest than other plant proteins, like soy.

A serving also delivers 10 grams of omega fatty acids, including essential omega-3 and omega-6. Omega-3 is known for its anti-inflammatory benefits as well supporting your healthy heart, brain, and skin.

Hemp seeds also offer a variety of vitamins and minerals. One serving provides 25 percent of the recommended daily value of vitamin B1 (thiamine), which is needed for a healthy nervous and cardiovascular systems, and 45 percent of magnesium, a critical nutrient that promotes high energy, healthy digestion, fewer headaches, and stress reduction.

How to use hemp milk

Hemp milk recipe


4 cups water

1 cup hemp seed

8 pitted Medjool dates (or more depending on desired sweetness)

1/4 teaspoon vanilla (optional)


  1. Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender* and blend on high for 1 minute or until completely smooth. Pour into lidded glass jars and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
  2. Will last covered in the refrigerator for about 4 days.

*Note: For those with a regular blender, you may need an extra step: If your hemp milk has too much pulp in it, use a nut milk bag or cheesecloth to separate the liquid from any seed or date particles.

You can scale this recipe up or down easily. Just use the ratio 1 cup water: 1/4 cup hemp seeds: 2 dates
